A native of Colorado, Monica moved to northern Wisconsin where she earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin education system in Eau Claire, WI. In 2006, Monica moved to Iowa City to earn her Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Iowa and has been practicing as a Certified Physician Assistant in Colorado since August 2008.
Since beginning her practice, Monica dedicated her first 5 years of practice to serving the under and un-insured population of the Denver Metro area with Metro Community Provider Network (MCPN). In early 2009, while still with MCPN, Monica partnered with Dr. Jose Castillo-Mancilla, MD of the University of Colorado to staff the MCPN HIV clinic and has since developed a deep interest and dedication for caring for those living with HIV and AIDS as well as addressing the primary prevention of HIV. She then joined Lone Tree Family Practice in late 2013 to expand her practice and experience, be closer to home, and free up some of her time to spend with family and friends.
Monica’s professional skills and interests include the management and prevention of HIV/AIDS (including HAART and PrEP prescription); and she is skilled and trained in performing basic office procedures including the placement of IUDs and general dermatologic procedures. She has also been through specialized hormone evaluation and replacement training for both males and females. Her professional interests and priorities include preventive and proactive health care, nutrition, diet and exercise counseling, and educating patients on how to best care for themselves to live a more healthy and well-balanced and active lifestyle.
An avid runner, weekend yogi, suburban gardener, budding snowboarder and evening “chef” – she lives locally in Highlands Ranch with her husband, Bryan and small dog, Mocha. She considers Colorado her true and forever home and in her spare time can be found enjoying the beauty of nature, reading a good book, sipping a cup of coffee or enjoying the occasional glass of wine or local craft microbrew beer.
